There are a lot of different philosophies and approaches to chiropractic medicine, and some of them can get pretty complicated. Not mine. My philosophy - and the philosophy of everything we do here at Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness - is that the best patient outcomes come when we treat the whole body and not just the symptoms.
Let me give you an example.
Say, you come into Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness complaining about pain in your left knee when you run..
I could just examine your left knee in hopes of determining the cause of the pain, but, as a functional movement expert who believes in treating the whole body, I choose a different strategy.
Instead of just examining your left knee, I'll ask you to stand in front of me while I check your posture. I'll have you do some squats to your pain tolerance, and then perform some simple muscle tests to make sure the muscles moving your knee are activating properly.
We'll probably chat for awhile about your training schedule, where you run, any past injuries you've had, and even your nutritional habits.
Then I'll examine your knee, leading you through some joint-specific orthopedic tests, checking for strength, range of motion and any sign of joint damage.
As an evidence-based chiropractor, I understand that pain is the result of a dysfunction somewhere in the body, and it's my job to find out where that dysfunction is located.
It might be in your left knee, but it's just as likely it's because you're not activating the proper muscles at the right time and in the right way.
In either case, once a diagnosis has been made, we can work together to remove the dysfunctional movement pattern, and restore proper joint function and muscular control.
No medications required.
That's what the whole-body treatment philosophy looks like at Cornerstone Chiropractic & Wellness.
